You’ll work with leading insurer Markel UK, handling high‑quality and often complex defendant work across clinical negligence, EL/PL and specialist sector claims. You’ll play a central role in strategy, business development, supervision, and the future direction of our practice.
What you'll be doing:
As Senior Associate, you will:
Lead and develop the Clinical Negligence specialism within the Casualty team.
Manage and grow key referrer, client and partner relationships, working closely with Markel UK
Drive business development, helping expand our portfolio and attract new work
Contribute to long-term planning, providing mentorship to the team and operational excellence
Supervise, mentor and support lawyers, trainees and paralegals.
Manage your own caseload with full budget, financial and profitability ownership
Support the Markel Law Advice Line and Business Hub to maintain quality and provide subject‑matter expertise
Shape our marketing, PR, communications and online presence within the clinical negligence space

An experienced clinical negligence specialist with strong technical capability
A confident manager with experience supervising and developing legal talent
Skilled at working with legal expenses and general insurance referrals
Commercially minded, delivering sharp, pragmatic advice
Someone who consistently forms positive relationships and has a track record of business development success
Highly organised, meticulous and excellent in written and verbal communication
