What can you expect in this role?
- Work in the tax department of a dynamic insurance company during a period of exciting change
- Manage all indirect tax compliance, including review and filing of Premium Tax returns, preparation and/or review and filing of GST/HST and provincial sales tax returns
- Manage indirect tax instalments, ensuring instalments are calculated and payments are made on a timely basis
- Preparation and/or review of indirect provisions and account reconciliations, including year-end provision material as required by external auditors
- Manage any premium tax or indirect tax audits and requests
- Perform contract reviews and provide tax advice and assistance to business units on indirect tax matters (GST/HST, QST and other provincial sales taxes)
- Support continuous improvement of indirect tax processes and controls to reduce tax risk and improve efficiency, analysis, reporting and business service
- Promote indirect tax awareness and knowledge including training and liaising with the business regarding changes to legislation and processes
- Assess the impact of changes in indirect tax legislation and provide recommendations as required to the appropriate internal stakeholders
- Work closely with the Director of Taxation and external tax advisors to provide indirect tax support for new entities, acquisitions and other tax planning
What do you bring to this role?
- Completion of a University degree, combined with a CPA designation
- Minimum 4-6 years of progressive experience in indirect tax
- Completion of indirect tax courses (In-depth GST/HST course, Specialized GST/HST Financial Services course or equivalent).
- Comprehensive knowledge of indirect tax legislation and compliance
- Knowledge and expertise in tax research and tax planning
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in dealing with Canadian tax authorities
- High level of proficiency in using MS Excel
- Experience with an insurance company or large financial institution would be an asset
High degree of proficiency in English is required to service customers, both internal to the company and external, across Canada.
Salary Range: $108,700 - $158,700
