Job Description
Canopius’ market leading Natural Resources division are looking for a skilled and experienced Power & Renewables Underwriter to take on a prominent role within the APAC Natural Resources Division. As an Underwriter you will play a crucial role in driving profitable growth through underwriting new and renewal business, for a broad portfolio of APAC Power & Renewables risks including onshore conventional power and onshore renewables.
The Power & Renewables portfolio, forms part of a wider Natural Resources division, with exposure to all areas of the Natural Resources Value Chain, including Power & Renewables, Downstream, Midstream & Upstream and Mining & Heavy Industries.
Responsibilities
- Develop the Power & Renewable energy business and proposition in APAC & MENA, as per the Global/Regional Natural Resources SBF Management Plan
- Work in close cooperation within London team and work within underwriting guidelines and risk appetite philosophy
- Evaluate insurance risks in accordance with the Business Plan and personal authority to meet business objectives effectively.
- Foster and sustain robust connections with stakeholders, including clients, brokers, and team members, to enhance influence and support business initiatives.
- Establish strategic partnerships aligned with the Business Plan to facilitate the attainment of organizational goals.
- Adhere to the insurance strategy to minimize risk and achieve targets outlined in the business plan.
- Actively engage in shaping and refining strategies, knowledge, and best practices within the team.
- Advocate positively for the department, division, and company brand to effectively leverage brand recognition.
- Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory standards to fulfil organizational obligations.
- Uphold underwriting guidelines, instructions, and best practices to reduce risk and improve operational efficiency.
- Remain knowledgeable about market dynamics and demonstrate awareness of market cycles to operate effectively.
- Encourage and develop team members.
Skills and Experience
- Proven underwriting or broking experience in the Power or Renewables and Singapore Insurance market with a good understanding of market dynamics.
- Contribute to long-term success of the overall business through business planning, organisation and development
- Confident and good communication skills to collaborate with colleagues and external stakeholders
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook / Word / Excel / PowerPoint).
- Active involvement and market player in APAC region are essential
- Lloyd’s and London market experience would be an advantage.
- Strong IT skills, literacy, numerate and having analytical and negotiation skills.
- A team player with strong communication skills, both internally and externally
- Ability to build relationships, with capacity to travel and undertake marketing.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work under pressure, able to commit to and meet deadlines.
- Able to take initiative and be a decision maker.
