Description
Convex US is seeking a high-caliber VP-level Underwriter to serve as a cornerstone technical expert for our US Financial Institutions (FI) segment. This is a senior-level individual contributor role, designed for an elite underwriter who thrives on technical execution and active market engagement. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of the most complex risks in our portfolio—from proactive business solicitation and broker marketing to technical analysis and deal structuring.
You will focus entirely on deal-making and risk analysis without the administrative burden of people management and have direct access to executive leadership and the ability to influence the technical direction of the FI segment from day one.
Key Responsibilities

Active Underwriting: Directly manage the screening, evaluation, and pricing of high-complexity risks, including banks, asset managers, hedge funds, and private equity firms.

Business Solicitation: Proactively market the firm's FI capabilities to major brokerage houses and leverage existing relationships to solicit high-quality new business submissions.

Technical Excellence: Act as a "referral point" for complex technical queries, providing expert judgment on policy wording, terms, and conditions to ensure profitability.

Portfolio Development: Work directly with executive leadership to refine the FI underwriting framework, risk appetite, and long-term growth strategies.

Market Representation: Represent the company at industry events and client-facing due diligence meetings to build the brand's presence in the specialty insurance market.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Experience: 5+ years of technical underwriting experience specifically within the Financial Institutions sector (D&O, E&O, Fiduciary, etc.).

Proven Production: A demonstrated track record of building and maintaining a profitable book of business through active broker solicitation and negotiation.

Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred; professional certifications relative to the position are a plus.
