The Senior Oracle Cloud Applications Engineer role supports Markel’s Global Financial Systems team, helping deliver and run core finance technology used across the organization. This position works across Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) cloud services, as well as related Accounting, Finance, Treasury, and Disbursement applications. The role is responsible for designing, building, and supporting integrations in Oracle Cloud environments to enable reliable data flow, interoperability, and secure operations. Success in this role requires strong Oracle Cloud technical expertise with an emphasis on automation, security, governance, and compliance.
In this role, you will partner with finance and technology stakeholders to translate business needs into well-designed technical solutions and deliver enhancements from concept through production support. You will collaborate closely with architects, analysts, engineers, software vendors, project managers, and third parties, and you will communicate effectively with business partners across multiple regions.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Design, build, and support integrations across Oracle Cloud applications and core finance platforms, including:
- Develop, schedule, and tune ODI (Oracle Data Integrator) jobs running in Oracle Cloud environments.
- Build and enhance Oracle APEX applications and components (including preprocessor tools) to meet business needs.
- Design and support OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure) Functions to enable serverless integrations and workflows with Oracle Fusion applications.
- Operate and troubleshoot Linux-based cloud environments, including scripting, deployments, and incident resolution.
- Develop and optimize ADW (Autonomous Data Warehouse) data pipelines and database objects to support reporting and analytics.
- Implement and maintain OCI security controls, including IAM policies, access management, and adherence to audit and compliance requirements.
- Create and maintain technical documentation (runbooks, integration diagrams, and process flows) for support and delivery teams.
- Build automation scripts in Python and OCI Cloud Shell to streamline operational tasks and reduce manual effort.
- Develop and maintain PL/SQL packages, procedures, and functions to support integration and data processing.
- Own Technical Platform operational support for assigned platforms and integrations, including:
- Participate in an on-call rotation to support critical issues during evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
- Partner with business and technology stakeholders to understand needs, communicate progress, and recommend improvements.
- Provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams on requirements, solution options, and production support considerations.
- Support release activities, including regression testing, deployment coordination, and post-release validation.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Hands-on experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) services and Oracle SaaS platforms, such as Oracle Fusion ERP and EPM; integrations (ODI); Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW); OCI Functions; and core OCI services (IAM, Object Storage, networking, and compartments).
- 7+ years of experience designing, developing, implementing, and troubleshooting integrations within Oracle Cloud environments.
- Preferred: experience with Oracle EPM modules such as Financial Consolidation and Close (FCCS), Enterprise Data Management (EDM), and Enterprise Planning and Budgeting (EPBCS).
- Preferred: knowledge of (or prior experience in) the insurance industry and/or financial reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong organization and planning abilities.
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, business-friendly communication.
- Strategic, conceptual, and analytical thinking skills, with sound judgment and decision-making capability.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and SharePoint).
