Sompo has a unique opportunity for a VP, Dental Professional Liability Claims in our Healthcare Claims team.
As the leader of the dental claims program, you will be working with third party administrators, agents, claims professionals, underwriting, and reinsurance teams. This position oversees TPA and claims professionals handling dental professional liability claims to provide exceptional customer service. The successful candidate will be able to provide insight and analysis on dental professional liability and regulatory claims and will report to the Head of US Healthcare Claims.

What you’ll be doing:
Handle a wide range of dental professional liability claims, including state regulatory complaints, licensing board complaints, and bad faith litigation, while guiding strategic settlement/disposition decisions.
Work with managing general agents, insureds, State Dental Associations, and oversee TPA partners in claim investigations, analysis, and evaluations within best practices.
Recruit, hire, and retain top talent, develop succession plans, and provide technical advice, training, and strategic direction to direct reports and TPA partners.
Identify trends and exposures impacting the dental malpractice portfolio, address process gaps, improve efficiencies, and deliver training and development opportunities.
Assist underwriting with legal reviews, policy drafting, and ensure accurate reporting to management and reinsurers, while contributing to global claims projects and industry initiatives.
Participate in cross-office projects, industry conferences, and publishing efforts, while supporting functional groups and fulfilling additional duties as required, including occasional travel.
What you’ll bring:
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in handling claims involving dental professional liability with a career history of increasing respon
sibility and an emphasis on evaluating, handling, negotiating, and settling complex matters. Experience in General Liability, Employment Practices Liability, ERISA Fiduciary Liability and Commercial Property a plus.
Minimum of 5 years experience managingTPAs
Knowledge of TPA’s processes in a risk, internal audit or delegated authority perspective
Law degree required, preference will be given if experience was at both a law firm and with an insurance carrier. Adjusters license required.
Strong preference for candidate who has pursued or is in the process of pursuing an insurance related designation, e.g., RPLU or CPCU.
Meaningful legal review experience and policy drafting experience.
Demonstrated ability to establish close working relationship with other departments including underwriting, reinsurance, & actuarial.
Strong negotiating, analytical, written, and organizational skills.
Excellent marketing and communication skills.
Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and various in-house claims systems –Guidewire, Genius, ImageRight is a plus).
Travel as needed
Salary Range: $170,000 – $250,000. Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
