How does this role contribute to our collective success?
As a member of the actuarial team supporting the North American Programs business unit, this individual will directly contribute towards managing the portfolio strategy of the Programs book. They will proactively engage with Reserving, Risk Management, Finance, Claims, and Data & Analytics colleagues to achieve desired business outcomes and implement business strategies.
What will you do in this role?
- Support the North American Programs Business Unit through profitability studies, price monitoring, planning, and new business opportunity analyses.
- Monthly reporting of Rate Change, Large Losses, Actual vs Expected, etc.
- Build and maintain Excel tools that help the Underwriting teams review both individual accounts as well as overall portfolio performance.
- Query and validate complex policy and loss data in SQL.
- Deep Dive analyses. This may include quantifying the impact of business strategies, market conditions, mix of business, loss trend, loss costs and reinsurance structures.
- Collaborate with Data and Analytics colleagues to implement Power BI dashboards.
- Mentor junior members of team.
- You may also be required to take on additional duties, responsibilities and activities appropriate to the nature of this role.
About You:

What you need to have:
- Associate or Progress towards Associateship in the Casualty Actuarial Society, or other relevant actuarial organization.
- Advanced user of Excel and can perform lookup functions, pivot tables and nested IF statements to create analyses from multiple large data sets.
- Experienced user of SQL with knowledge of how to query data.
- Self-starter, motivated, proactive and a quick learner. Willing to question, investigate and follow through.
- Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to establish credibility with senior underwriters and business unit leaders.
- Attention to detail with work that is technically sound.
- Timeliness of delivery and appropriate prioritization when there are conflicting demands.
What we prefer you to have:
- Understanding of Actuarial Methods. Ability to produce an estimate of Ultimate from raw data.
- Experience with rate filings.
- Familiarity with ISO Loss Costs.
- Experience querying complex data.
- Experience building Excel tools.
Role Factors:
- Show continued progress on actuarial exams.
- Be in the office 3 days per week.
- Occasional travel for business.
What we offer:
For this position, we currently expect to offer a base salary in the range of $115,000 to $130,000 (NY). Your salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including your specific experience and work location.
