The opportunity:
You will be responsible for managing a team ensuring audit activities are carried out to the highest standards. You will build relationships at all levels, working collaboratively to influence solutions for the most effective use of Markel resources.
The team operates globally and consists of thirty permanent staff, including six London-based staff. The department covers insurance operations, IT audit and shared services.
What you’ll be doing:
- Manage the day-to-day delivery of the Audit Plan as approved by the Audit Committee.
- Able to plan and organize audit team activities to manage multiple competing priorities and deploy resources to complete assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
- Identifies issues, deviations, and root causes; then displays the ability (both written and verbal) to effectively communicate issues to management.
- Displays a superior understanding of the organization's risks, controls, and governance and how it relates to the work of Internal Audit and alter department objectives and testing based on the emerging risks.
- Directs and oversees key processes across the Audit department or in alignment with the organization’s other control functions to improve departmental and organizational processes without damaging relationships.
- Cultivates networks and creates opportunities to develop relationships and build bonds across the organization.
- Implement and influences improvements to the efficacy and efficiency of the audit department.
- Willing and able to provide clear and constructive feedback to assist auditors in identifying opportunities for development and advice for progressing their career planning. Works to build motivated, high performing teams and develop bench strength.
- Supports the Directors/Managing Director with reporting to the company’s management committees and Audit Committees where necessary.
Our must-haves:
- Extensive experience in the insurance industry or financial services operations.
- History of consistently exceeding expectations and target goals.
- Advanced business judgment on control issues.
- Strong negotiation and presentation skills.
- Strong people leadership and development skills.
- Able to build relationships across the organization.
- Able to oversee multiple projects, managing the teams performing the work.
- Able to direct processes involving multiple stakeholders.
- CPA/ACA/ACCA, CIA,/CMIIA CISA or equivalent certification required or an agreed development plan to attain a professional designation within agreed timeframe following appointment.
