Within the team we manage a number of different LOBs including motor. You will be working closely with our senior claim adjuster in motor, mainly dealing with claims in the bracket £50,000 - £250,000. However, there will be opportunities to get involved with higher value and complex claims supporting and enabling continued professional development. The role
To act as a referral point for TPAs for operational, procedural and technical matters as required to deliver the claims service in accordance with the claims handling manual and relevant delegated authority agreements.
To desktop adjust own portfolio of cases notified, from first advice through to settlement within their designated authority, in accordance with the claims handling manual.
Key accountabilities
- To undertake an initial evaluation of cause of loss to determine whether a claim is covered and what further information may be required.
- To decide the Company’s response to claims, based on correct interpretation of policy and underwriting documentation; investigating, negotiating and settling claims within statutory and company guidelines. This includes coverage analysis and policy determination.
- To assist in the process for setting accurate, realistic and timely claim reserves to enable management to assess the company exposure.
- To liaise variously with clients, loss adjusters, solicitors, experts, brokers, MGAs and TPAs as appropriate for claims service and investigation.
- To attend meetings with clients, loss adjusters, solicitors, experts, brokers, MGAs and TPAs as required for the claims service and investigation.
- To act as a referral point for TPAs on operational, procedural and technical questions and matters.
- To assist with audits of TPAs, loss adjusters, insured’s own claims records and any other parties as required.
- To review MI for accuracy and liaise with TPAs, loss adjusters and other parties as required to ensure the MI accurately reflects the claims data.
- To liaise variously with underwriters & risk managers, finance, management, Home Office and with network (Servicing and/or Producing offices) as and when relevant for informational, procedural or authority reasons.
- To maintain accurate records for auditing and regulatory purposes, preparing reports as necessary.
- To ensure accurate entry of claims data into Company systems to enable precise reporting on the nature and financial impact of the claims portfolio and to assist in the preparation of MI.
- To proactively participate in projects or other initiatives designed to improve the effectiveness or efficiency of the team and/or department.
- To undertake any other tasks as requested by the Head of Liability Claims in order that the team achieve its objectives.
Skills & experience
- Motor claims handling experience including own damage, third party damage, personal injury and credit hire;
- Ability to handle motor claims with a value of up to £250,000;
- Motor claims handling experience in commercial motor/fleet matters;
- Understanding of end-to-end claims procedures including litigation;
- Knowledge of using claims systems including the MOJ Portal and OIC Portal;
- Knowledge of JC Guidelines for the assessment of general damages in personal injury claims;
- Good working knowledge of coverage provided under general motor (own damage and third party) policies;
- Experience of UK Market in motor matters;
- Good general knowledge and understanding of insurance principles;
- General awareness of current regulations and market issues;
- Understanding and good working knowledge of current, relevant law.
