The Actuarial Data Management team is looking for a skilled data and technology professional to help us deliver innovative data solutions. This role provides the opportunity to utilize your deep technical skills and business partnership skills. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with our business partners to architect, design and deliver SQL-centered data solutions utilizing standard tools and technologies including Google Cloud platform and Microsoft Power BI.
The ideal candidate will have substantial, demonstrated experience using SQL across multiple projects and will understand moderate-to-advanced SQL techniques/methods coming into the role. Knowledge of query optimization, data validation, and data transformation is essential. A solid understanding of aggregation, joining data across multiple tables and datasets, and SQL syntax is also essential. An understanding of data pipeline automation is a plus. This candidate will also have experience writing formulas and creating semantic data layers in Power BI or similar software.
In this position, you will enjoy a hybrid work schedule that typically consists of 1 day per week in our CNA Chicago office with the option to work the remainder of your week remotely.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Collaborate with leaders and business partners to understand analytical requirements, identify appropriate data sources, and deliver information that supports the expected outcomes.
- Heavily leverage BigQuery SQL to create or adapt data models that are enabled and regularly updated in a cloud environment.
- Employ a standard production deployment process for created datasets to Google BigQuery and Power BI online, ensuring communication with stakeholders throughout the process.
- Support and enhance data processes by building out controls, validating, and adding capability to common datasets while ensuring reliability and data integrity.
- Identify requirements and subsequently build dashboards/exhibits for our stakeholders using Power BI, while ensuring the underlying SQL-based data is correct and up to date throughout the process.
- Evaluate existing actuarial tools/processes and collaborate with our technology partners to define future state solutions that meet our requirements and eliminate support issues.
- Work closely with data management director, information technology, and ADMO teams to inform proper practices as you work through SQL builds, dashboards, and other projects. This ensures solutions conform to company-wide strategy and approach.
- Serve in a production support capacity by diagnosing and fixing issues across BigQuery SQL tables, datasets, and Power BI dashboards as they occur.
- Independently identify and investigate issues related to projects. Recommend alternatives which include system identification, remediation of issues, and documentation of analysis and resolution.
- Create and develop presentations, design documentation/diagrams, and job aids as part of projects.

Skills Knowledge and Abilities
- Substantial data architecture, design and coding experience designing and developing with SQL is required. Experience in R, Python, and/or related programming languages is a plus.
- Significant experience in one or more common visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik required. Experience in Power BI is preferred. Intermediate to advanced DAX-writing ability preferred.
- Knowledge of cloud-based data applications (Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure, etc.) preferred, but not required in lieu of strong on-premise data experience (i.e. Oracle database, T-SQL database).
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact and build trusted relationships across different departments and all levels of management.
- Strong technical and problem solving skills with the ability to resolve complex situations and issues in an efficient and timely manner.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, and the ability to independently manage or lead multiple projects.
- Understanding of the insurance industry, its products, practices and operations is preferred but not required. Knowledge of common actuarial data needs is a plus.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Technology, Finance, Statistics, or related field
- Typically a minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience

In Illinois the average base pay range for a Senior Data Management Analyst is $88,000 to $110,000. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia,California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $54,000 to $103,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
