We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Underwriting Assistant to join our team in Alpharetta, Georgia. The ideal candidate will support the Underwriting unit by providing essential underwriting and administrative assistance, ensuring that our operations run smoothly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Submission Management: Handle the clearance of new submissions and set up files for new policies.
Policy Construction: Identify and apply the appropriate forms and endorsements for policy development.
Correspondence Management: Manage general correspondence and renewal letters to maintain effective communication with brokers and clients.
Service Standards: Uphold service standards by responding promptly to broker requests and ensuring timely receipt of underwriting information.
Customer Communication: Engage with customers to confirm or gather necessary data for policy issuance and servicing.
Documentation Preparation: Assist Underwriters in preparing quotations, binders, and policies as directed.
Account Inquiries: Conduct inquiries in various management systems to support underwriting decisions.
Special Projects: Undertake special projects as assigned by management.
Scope Of Role
This position plays a critical role in supporting the Underwriting unit's objectives, contributing to the overall profitability and efficiency of the company. The Underwriting Assistant will report directly to the Underwriting Manager and will not have any direct reports.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
0-2 years of experience in the insurance industry.
0-2 years of experience in commercial insurance underwriting support.
Proficient data entry and computer skills.
Desired Skills
Coverage Knowledge: Understanding of coverage fundamentals, terms, and conditions to offer profitable solutions that meet customer needs.
Risk Assessment: Ability to identify risk exposures and analyze claims to quantify losses effectively.
Financial Acumen: Familiarity with financial statements and ratios relevant to risk analysis and the impact of underwriting decisions on company assets.
Actuarial Understanding: Basic knowledge of loss trends, loss triangles, and ratemaking to assist in risk quantification.
Marketing and Communication Skills: Strong negotiation and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate strategically and manage producer relationships.
Technical Proficiency: Competence in using necessary systems and software for daily operations.
