The role:
Develop a profitable book of business in-line with HDIs underwriting through:
- Underwriting the Accident & Health accounts - in accordance with the underwriting guidelines and business plan, and;
- Externally promote HDI to broking houses, creating a network of supporting brokers providing clients opportunities within appetite and also respond and develop new opportunities as they are presented, and;
- Contributing to the strategic direction of the accounts – working with the Underwriting Manager.
Key accountabilities:
- Underwrite, review, peer-review, process, and service, profitable renewal and prospect business for the Accident & Health accounts in line with Underwriting Authority, the business plan, and all underwriting rules and guidelines
- Responsible for liaison and servicing of HDIs Accident & Health business
- Develop strong, long-term relationships with London Market brokers and our mutual clients to profitably grow a book of business and provide excellent customer service
- Identify new business opportunities and growth areas for class - supported by analytics as appropriate
- Monitoring of Aggregates
- Identify and calculate risk trends and suggest modifications to the underwriting criteria and determine premium levels as appropriate
- Work with the Underwriting Manager to contribute to the business plan, establish appetite parameters, underwriting guidelines, pricing tools and market strategy
- Represent HDI at client meetings and insurance conferences
- Participate in special underwriting projects as needed
- Nurture a culture of strong collaboration with HDI Global Group colleagues around the world
- Communicate risk appetite and value proposition to London Market brokers
- Provide technical underwriting expertise / guidance to less experienced underwriting staff on the coverage, risk selection, and market
Skills & experience:
- Well established market underwriter with considerable Accident & Health experience, with a detailed understanding of the product and market
- Understanding of the inputs required to create technical pricing and able to contribute to the development and refinement of underwriting tools
- Established connections within the Accident & Health market to access the desired business partners and the identified client base
- Experience in writing to a balanced portfolio and deep understanding of line size management and risk selection
- Strong team ethic and self-motivating character
- Desire to aid the development of more junior members of the team and demonstrate best practice
- Calm and considered judgement even during peak trading periods
