The role
This is an exciting opportunity to become a key part of a growing area of the business at HDI. You’ll be involved in all aspects of technical accounting for Delegated Authority as this area continues to expand in the UK. While the Delegated Authority technical accounting function currently operates as a small, dedicated part of the wider team, you’ll work closely with colleagues across underwriting, claims, and operations to ensure accurate, efficient handling of accounts. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to build hands-on experience, take ownership of their day-to-day work, and develop in a supportive, collaborative environment.
Key accountabilities
- Support the timely collection of premiums by working with brokers and following up on outstanding balances
- Process cash receipts and payments accurately via Xchanging and directly from third parties (including brokers, reinsurers, co-insurers, and loss adjusters)
- Allocate cash to the correct entries on the ledger and help reconcile balances with third-party statements
- Work with internal teams to resolve payment queries, investigate mismatches, and follow up on unallocated cash
- Help maintain and monitor claims loss funds, including arranging top-ups and processing change requests
- Assist with regular reconciliations of premium and claims bordereaux
- Process payments and bookings related to delegated authority business (e.g., invoices, emergency payments, cash calls)
- Support other tasks as needed to help the team meet its goals, under guidance from the Financial Controller
- Focus on delegated authority accounts, ensuring accurate cash handling, reconciliation, and reporting in line with binding authority arrangements
Skills & experience
- Previous experience in delegated authority within credit control or accounting
- Comfortable communicating with brokers and internal teams
- Organised and able to manage your time across different tasks and deadlines
- An understanding of how technical accounting or credit control works in a delegated authority environment, or a strong desire to build this knowledge quickly
- Ability to review and process bordereaux, loss funds and cash movements in the context of delegated underwriting arrangements
- Experience using Excel and other Microsoft Office tools
- Knowledge of Xchanging or similar London Market systems is beneficial
- A positive, proactive approach to working as part of a team
