The Team
We are seeking a talented and ambitious Associate (NQ–4 PQE) to join our highly regarded Planning & Environmental team in London.
This is an excellent opportunity to work on some of the UK’s most complex and high-profile infrastructure and development projects, within a collaborative, supportive and forward-thinking international law firm.
You will be joining a busy, dynamic team with a diverse client base across both the public and private sectors. Our planning practice spans the full spectrum of planning law, with a strong focus on major infrastructure projects, including nationally significant infrastructure projects (NSIPs) in sectors such as ports, airports, rail, highways and energy.
The Role
Our expertise includes planning applications, appeals and inquiries, judicial review, environmental impact assessment (EIA), local plan examinations, heritage and listed buildings, planning enforcement, compulsory purchase and negotiation of planning and infrastructure agreements.
On the environmental side, we regularly advise clients on a wide range of regulatory and liability issues, including land contamination, water pollution, statutory nuisance, waste management and emissions to air.
You will be expected to support on large, complex matters while taking ownership of smaller matters and workstreams. The role offers excellent opportunities for career development, client exposure and a high level of responsibility from an early stage.
Key Responsibilities
- Advising on planning strategy for major infrastructure and development projects, including NSIPs
- Supporting clients through planning application and appeals processes, including public inquiries
- Drafting and negotiating planning and infrastructure agreements
- Advising on EIA and other environmental compliance matters
- Supporting local plan representations and examinations
- Advising on listed buildings and heritage matters
- Advising on enforcement and compulsory purchase proceedings
- Advising on environmental liability, permitting, and regulatory enforcement
- Working closely with colleagues across the real estate, projects, construction, and disputes teams
Skills And Experience
- England & Wales qualified solicitor (NQ–4 PQE), with experience in planning and/or environmental law
- Experience working on infrastructure projects and/or with planning authorities or regulatory bodies is advantageous
- Strong drafting, analytical and project management skills
- A commercial approach and the ability to build and maintain strong client relationships
- Collaborative, proactive, and keen to contribute to business development initiatives
