Job Description
The Team
We are looking to hire a Manager, Actuarial Systems Developer within the Divisional Business Services, Actuarial Systems Team at Pacific Life Re, a major global player in Life Reinsurance.
As well as supporting our Actuarial functions around the globe, the team is increasingly working with the wider business to ensure we are well positioned to embrace the rapidly changing technical landscape.
With a proactive approach to problem solving, you will constantly strive to improve all aspects of the actuarial systems workflow, including calculation accuracy, process automation and system performance. You will be involved in the design, implementation and testing of process, modelling and infrastructure improvements.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced modeller to join our growing team and lead a small team of 4/5 junior developers. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support the following activities:
- Support and lead the development and maintenance of a robust set of actuarial modelling tools and process, ensuring global consistency across methodology and processes.
- The key tasks cover all aspects of our end-to-end process, including the drafting of Technical Specifications, implementing model updates and testing and reviewing changes.
- To develop and maintain strong working relationships with all key users, specifically within the territory in which you are domiciled.
- Support the AST team in triaging change requests and development pipelines.
- Support the development and/or maintenance of documentation and user guides.
- Oversight / management of junior team members, including supporting and monitoring their development needs.
- Excellent coding capabilities, acting in line with best practices. Propose, design and implement optimisation activities that enhance the performance of our models.
- Demonstrate ability to identify and prioritise high value outcomes in terms of various competing priorities and in context of time/resource/design constraints.
- Active independent / peer review and challenge across all aspects of the E2E Model Development Framework – on business requirements.
- Proactively contribute to AST team management and various strategic objectives and focus areas outside of day-to-day role
Skills & Experience
- Qualified actuary with minimum of 5 years’ experience in life insurance or life reinsurance.
- Coding experience, e.g. C++, Python or VBA
- Demonstrable interest in long-term actuarial modelling role
- Model development experience, preferably with knowledge of Life, CI, IP and Annuity/Longevity products
- Experience of using MoSes, RiskAgility FM, Tyche or similar modelling platforms, including an understanding of the benefits and limitations of such platforms
- Advanced understanding of Microsoft Excel and Word
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to build and manage relationships with stakeholders in Actuarial and non-Actuarial teams
- Ability to be forward-looking and anticipate future needs
- Good analytical skills and a demonstrable ability to plan and prioritise workloads and deliver to deadlines
- Lead on design and implementation and full ownership of larger deliveries and workstreams end-to-end
- Coaching experience and ability to manage across multiple locations and time zones
- Track record of challenging / improving processes and fostering a culture of continuous improvement
- Experience overseeing change and the introduction of new processes, controls and systems
- Experience drafting and prioritising model requirements
- Experience with Agile delivery methods desirable
