Purpose of the Role
As one of the most profitable syndicates at Lloyd’s over the past decade, AEGIS London are seeking to recruit a high-performing underwriter to join an accomplished International Professional Indemnity (PI) team. With a portfolio that is primarily facility-driven, suitable candidates would have experience in managing a book of business, setting class strategy and shaping underwriting appetite.
Duties And Accountabilities
- Underwrite the International PI account on behalf of Syndicate 1225 diligently, thoughtfully, and responsibly and in accordance with personal underwriting authorities and the Syndicate’s underwriting procedures, referring risks to the Class Underwriter, Head of Department or Active Underwriter when or if required.
- Assist in delivering the required business mix, planned premium income and ULRs as agreed within the syndicate business plan (SBF), and contribute new ideas and concepts, where appropriate, to support said delivery of plan.
- Monitor binders, facilities and lineslips for declarations, premium income and aggregates, including the undertaking of referrals and reviews when applicable.
- Assist with the preparation of data for Consortium and Outwards Reinsurance reporting and prepare in-depth analysis of binding authorities when required.
- Establish, maintain and service strong client and producer relationships, ensuring that the service provided to brokers, coverholders and policyholders is of the highest standard.
- Ensure entries are properly recorded onto relevant internal systems in a timely manner whilst ensuring accuracy of data with relation to both underwriting and aggregated line exposures.
- Compliance with all applicable internal and external laws, regulations, policies, procedures and guidance.
- Undertake business travel when appropriate to cultivate and maintain business relationships.
- Complete other duties as directed, including project work, the development of new products, and mentoring of the Assistant Underwriter and/or Underwriting Assistant.
Skills, Knowledge And Experience
The successful candidate will have:
- A thorough working knowledge and underwriting experience of the International Professional Indemnity (PI) market, including detailed comprehension of policy wordings, coverages, premium rates and risk factors.
- Experience in managing a book of PI business and ownership of such.
- A proactive and entrepreneurial approach.
- Strong technical knowledge & analytical skills across traditional PI lines.
- The ability to work collegiately as part of a team, as well as individually when required.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills, with an ability to forge and maintain long-term relationships with key stakeholders.
- Strong organisational and planning skills, including the ability to prioritise and manage time effectively.
- Proficient in the knowledge and use of standard underwriting systems, process and procedure.
- Intermediate to Advanced level understanding of relevant software, including Excel and other departmental software packages.
- Preferably ACII qualified.
