The primary purpose of this position is to provide a range of decisions based on actuarial analysis and forecasting, to maximize profit and growth. Develops complex actuarial formulations leading to the recommendation of extensive and impactful pricing strategies and loss reserving. Provide consultations and clarification on actuarial models and risk issues, and influences management towards a course of action that have a potential impact on underwriting, pricing, risk management, and profitability.
Job Responsibilities:
Job responsibilities will include a combination of some of the below items, subject to the needs of our stakeholders:
Forecasting reserve estimates on a quarterly basis
Communicating quarterly results to Finance, Claims, Underwriting, and executive leadership
Periodic pricing studies
Utilizing predictive analytics to identify most and least profitable insureds within a portfolio
Rate change monitoring
Developing action monitors to track progress toward stated goals to improve profitability
Researching new business opportunities and identifying potential acquisitions
Ad hoc requests from product line leaders and executive leadership
Other actuarial work as needed
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, or a related analytical field.
4+ actuarial exams passed
Minimum of 3 years of actuarial experience
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Excellent analytical ability
Proficiency in Excel, with strong computer skills.
Strong written and oral communication skills

Pay information:
Job level, title, and base salary offered to the successful candidate will be commensurate with experience, specialized skills relevant to the role, and possession of the outlined preferred qualifications. Markel reserves the right to propose an alternative career level based on these factors. Base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors, such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The national average salary for the Senior Actuarial Analyst position is $78,000 - $107,250 with 15% bonus potential.
