Role Summary and Purpose
To support Underwriting strategies for profitable business growth and retention by undertaking risk surveys of insured and prospect businesses. A risk survey involves assessment and evaluation of insurable risks exposures and production of a report to furnish Underwriters with all information to ensure adequate understanding of the risk presented. Where adverse risk features are identified the Surveyor will, if practicable, develop and communicate remedial risk control measures necessary to reduce or mitigate risks to a standard commensurate with the trade and exposure.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Undertake an appropriate number of risk surveys per annum in accordance with Company technical guidance, including production of reports and risk improvements within agreed service standards.
- Maintain personal knowledge and understanding of all relevant technical and legal issues and disseminate information as appropriate to ensure that the Risk Control Team and Underwriting Department are kept well informed of risk management developments.
- Work collaboratively with other parts of the organisation and engage in initiatives to enhance risk management services and market reputation.
- Deliver training on risk control related topics to Underwriters and other audiences as requested.

Skills / Competencies
- Knowledge and understanding of the Company’s business Underwriting Strategy and the role of the Risk Control Team in delivering this
- Technical surveying knowledge and experience of a broad range of manufacturing, distribution, leisure and service trades
- Knowledge and understanding of disciplines relevant to the identification, evaluation and control of insurable risk exposures including fire, perils, business interruption, theft/security and liabilities
- Good time management and organisational skills
- Good communication, negotiation and closing skills
- Competent in use of MS Word, Outlook, and Excel
- Driving Licence
Preferred Qualifications
- Chartered Insurance Institute: CIP/ACII
- Institute of Risk Management: CMIRM
- NEBOSH Certificate/Diploma or equivalent
Preferred Experience
- 5+ years of surveying a broad spectrum of manufacturing, distribution, leisure and service trades.
