Convex has substantially grown the Casualty product offering since our inception in 2019. Our International Casualty team covers a broad range of industries within our core appetite, writing General Liability insurance with coverage typically consisting of public liability, product liability and sudden accidental pollution liability. We indemnify insureds for their legal liability to pay damages for third-party bodily injury or property damage arising from the insured’s activities or products.
As a Career Returner and part of our supporter Returner Programme, you’ll work closely aligned with our International Casualty Underwriters who will support your learning and enable to you to contribute to the future growth of the book. You’ll report directly to our Head of International Casualty Underwriting.
As a member of International Casualty team, you will participate in evaluating, classifying, and pricing complex casualty insurance risks (including General Liability, Excess & Umbrella) to ensure a profitable portfolio. Moreover, you will contribute to the oversight and portfolio management of delegated authority business.
In this role, you will leverage your previous experience alongside modern data tools and updated market knowledge gained through the programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse and evaluate casualty insurance submissions, including financial data, engineering information, loss histories, contractual agreements, and exposure information, to determine risk acceptability.
- Determine and negotiate appropriate pricing, terms, conditions, and coverage limits, ensuring profitability and market competitiveness, making sound long term decisions
- Undertake analysis of the portfolio to identify business opportunities, products and clients, ensuring a robust business case.
- Contribute to the profitable growth of the Casualty line of business by identifying opportunities within risk appetite.
- Together with the team, define and execute the Underwriting strategic intent in line with Convex values.
- Create and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure all underwriting activities comply with relevant risk, regulatory and legal requirements and group policies, including the company’s Business Ethics policy.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
- We will consider candidates with a legal background, for example you may have worked as a Lawyer or Paralegal, or have previously gained experience within an underwriting, claims, or actuarial role.
- Must have been out of the paid workforce for a minimum of two continuous years (or more).
- Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including proven negotiation and presentation abilities.
- You enjoy networking across the business and externally, building and nurturing relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
