Job Description: Senior Compliance Advisor (London)
How does this role contribute to our collective success?
This role supports the AXIS Compliance function across the UK, Europe and Bermuda to maintain, enhance and execute a robust compliance framework to provide evidence-based assurance of compliance with applicable regulatory compliance. The AXIS Compliance function operates within a cross-jurisdictional framework with strong collaboration across the wider Compliance team and other business areas.
Reporting to the Compliance SMF-16 for AXIS Managing Agency Limited (“AMAL”), the role holder will assist the Compliance function in all aspects of the Compliance Universe.
What will you do in this role?
Provide expert guidance to the business on compliance and regulatory matters, including governance, outsourcing, operational resilience, licensing, conduct risk etc. to employees, with the support of Compliance Operations, in a manner that is appropriate to their role and seniority.
Contribute to the quality, timely, and concise reporting to the legal entity Boards, Executive Management, and provide reports to any other applicable governance forum.
Represent the Compliance function in various Committees and Working Groups, presenting on Compliance matters and providing robust challenge to the business.
Support the development and maintenance of relationships with the various regulators, as well as assisting with regulatory communications, applications and inspections, ensuring that any follow up actions are addressed.
Attend and contribute to Lloyd’s, IUA, LMA, and other market committees and forums, where appropriate, to ensure the Company keeps abreast of regulatory and market developments.
Provide support in the annual Principles for Doing Business at Lloyd’s Board attestation process by guiding the business, where needed.
Prepare and co-ordinate regulatory returns.
Ensure SMCR compliance and support the business with Senior Manager Function regulatory applications.
Contribute to the delivery of the annual Compliance Plan, including compliance monitoring and assurance activities.
Assisting with the interpretation and implementation of new or amended regulation, legislation or codes of conduct with impacted business teams, including LITA alerts.
Conduct tailored training with business areas and provide input into system-based eLearning regulatory training.
Contribute to maintaining and embedding compliance policies and procedures across the business.
Assist the Financial Crime team with sanction queries and enhancements to the Financial Crime framework.
You may also be required to take on additional duties, responsibilities and activities appropriate to the nature of this role.

What you need to have:
5-7 years of compliance experience within the Lloyd’s and London General Insurance Market.
Experience, directly or supporting, regulatory engagement.
Strong understanding of PRA, FCA, and Lloyd’s rules and guidance.
Knowledge and practical experience with regulatory returns, SM&CR, and Conduct Risk.
Experience with regulatory horizon scanning process, including the identification, summarising, and circulation of key regulatory developments.
Proven track record of presenting compliance topics at governance committees.
Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to build strong stakeholder relationships and adapt to the needs of the business.
Capable of managing deliverables independently to a high standard, with strong attention to detail, adaptability in fast-paced environments, and a commitment to continuous learning.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly PowerPoint, Excel, and SharePoint. Familiarity with AI solutions is desirable.
What we prefer you to have:
Degree-level qualification in Law, Business, Insurance, Risk Management, or equivalent, and/or insurance/compliance certifications.
Knowledge of international regulatory bodies and their requirements.
Understanding of specialty insurance products within the Lloyd’s of London and Irish insurance markets such as Cyber, Marine, and Accident & Health.
Experience working within a global (re)insurance group with a presence in Europe.
A foundation-level awareness of Sanctions, to support the wider Compliance team with the management of sanctions queries during peak times.
Experience designing and executing monitoring/assurance activities.
Role Factors:
In this role, you will typically be required to attend the London office 3 days per week. You may be required to infrequently travel internationally.
