The Role
Clyde & Co is seeking an Associate or Senior Associate to join its market-leading Financial Institutions and Directors’ & Officers (FIDO) team in London.
Our global FIDO team advises the London market, US and international insurers and reinsurers on all aspects of financial institutions and D&O insurance work.
We have built a strong reputation for successfully defending claims and resolving the most complex and high-value coverage issues in the insurance market.
The successful candidate will work on a broad range of high-profile and complex matters, acting for insurer clients on claims of all sizes and types, including some of the largest losses in the global insurance market.
Key Responsibilities
- Advising insurers and reinsurers on D&O and Financial Institutions claims, from notification through to resolution
- Handling claims against institutional and retail banks, building societies, pension funds, split capital investment trusts, investment advisers, asset managers and hedge funds
- Acting on complex defence matters, including:
- Directors’ disqualification proceedings
- Wrongful trading and other insolvency-related claims
- Civil penalty proceedings
- Criminal and regulatory enforcement actions arising from alleged corporate and financial misconduct
- Advising on complex coverage issues, including policy interpretation, aggregation, exclusions and indemnity disputes
- Managing and conducting coverage litigation, arbitration and mediation
- Monitoring claims for insurers on a global basis, providing strategic input and controlling leakage on large insurance programmes
- Advising and working with steering committees on multi-jurisdictional and high-value claims
- Supporting partners on business development and contributing to the growth of the FIDO practice
- Mentoring junior team members and contributing to team knowledge-sharing initiatives
Skills And Experience
- England & Wales qualified solicitor
- Significant post-qualification experience in Financial Institutions and/or D&O insurance work, ideally gained at a leading insurance or disputes practice
- Strong experience advising insurer clients on complex claims and coverage issues
- Experience of handling or supporting litigation, arbitration and mediation
- A strong understanding of insolvency-related claims, regulatory investigations or financial misconduct matters is desirable
- Excellent analytical, drafting and advocacy skills
- Ability to manage complex matters and multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced, international environment
- Strong client-handling skills and a commercial, solutions-focused approach
