IAT has an immediate opening for an Assistant Vice President, Major Case Unit that can report to any IAT location. This role is part of the Claims Services senior leadership team and is responsible for driving strategy, operational excellence and optimal claim outcomes while providing leadership, direction, and development opportunities for their team.
This role works a hybrid schedule which reflects our values (thinking and acting like an owner, collaboration, and teamwork) as it requires working from the office with colleagues and other disciplines Monday through Wednesday, with the option of working Thursday and Friday remotely.
Although there is preference for an individual to work in an IAT office, we will consider fully remote work for the ideal candidate.
Responsibilities:
- Leads day-to-day operations for a team of 6 adjusters that handle primarily complex litigated high exposure claims involve commercial trucking auto injuries, product liability, excess and surplus claims, construction defect, premises and liquor liability, and various other general liability claims.
- Ability to translate vision into concrete business plans and strategies with a focus on service, execution excellence and continuous improvement.
- Ability to motivate a team towards a common goal and inspire action.
- Innovate and appropriately drive change and challenge existing processes, with a focus on driving quality and simplicity.
- Ensure claim handling strategy is effectively managed, providing direction and support of claims in excess of manager’s authority.
- Coordinate as needed to ensure prompt, efficient, and accurate claim payments by maintaining necessary claim controls, thereby providing high levels of customer service.
- Establish best practices and procedures to regularly evaluate team performance and enhance claim quality, litigation strategy, and consistency. Select, develop, motivate, and train teams to achieve Claim Department objectives.
- Foster collaboration and communication with key business partners such as , Underwriting and Actuarial to ensure transparency regarding developing claim trends.
- Utilize data and key performance indicators to monitor trends and develop proactive action plans to enhance outcomes. Actively participate in Senior Claim leadership on matters such as staffing, guidelines, strategic planning.
- Monitor and evaluate team performance, providing frequent feedback. Also responsible for hiring, training, developing and mentoring staff.
Qualifications:
Must have:
- Bachelor’s degree with 10 years of relevant claims experience or equivalent.
- Equivalent experience is defined as 14 years of relevant claims experience.
- In lieu of claims experience, relevant IAT experience will be considered.
- In lieu of management experience, relevant IAT experience will be considered.
- Superior written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrates high self-awareness—seeks and embraces candid feedback with resiliency.
- Proven track record of coaching, mentoring, and providing career development direction to direct reports.
- Drives effective team behaviors to ensure optimal outcomes.
- To qualify, all applicants must be authorized to work in the United States and must not require, now or in the future, VISA sponsorship for employment purposes.
Preferred to have:
- Proficiency in lean six sigma, root cause problem solving.
- 5 or more years of management experience strongly preferred.
- Nationwide claims handling background.

Compensation:
Please note, that the annual gross salary range associated with this posting is $97,880 – $213,030. Actual salaries will vary based on factors such as a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and geographical location related to this specific role. The total compensation will include a base salary, performance-based bonus opportunities, 401(K) match, profit-sharing opportunities, and more.
