Reporting to the Director – Strategic Risk, Corporate Actuarial, the successful candidate will be responsible for Risk Management activities relating to assessing climate perils and the impact of climate change on the company’s operations
What can you expect in this role?
- Monitor and assess emerging catastrophe‑related risks on the company’s business operations.
- Conduct research on climate‑related hazards and evaluate how climate change and other human‑driven factors influence exposure, vulnerability, and overall implications for the insurance industry.
- Analyze, interpret, and visualize geospatial and climate datasets using programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and spatial analysis tools (e.g., GIS platforms) to generate actionable insights.
- Support the development, calibration, and testing of catastrophe models, ensuring methodological rigor and alignment with internal risk frameworks.
- Communicate complex analytical results clearly and effectively through presentations, written reports, and dashboards tailored to both technical and senior leadership audiences.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with Actuarial partners (Reserving, Planning), and external groups such as Finance, Reinsurance, and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) to address multi‑dimensional risk challenges and support enterprise decision‑making.
- Identify and implement opportunities to enhance processes, improve data workflows, and strengthen analytical efficiency and consistency.
- Provide support to the team leader in coaching, mentoring, and developing team members to foster a high‑performing and learning‑oriented environment.
What do you bring to the role?
- University degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Completion of at least four CAS exams (or equivalent actuarial credentials) & 2–3 years of actuarial experience within the insurance industry.
- Strong programming capabilities, including proficiency in Python and commonly used scientific libraries (e.g., pandas, NumPy, SciPy, scikit ‑ learn).
- Demonstrated ability to collect, clean, manage, and analyze large and complex datasets, including climate, exposure, and socioeconomic data.
- Proven ability to work both independently and in collaboration with cross ‑ functional teams.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time ‑ management skills.
- Highly adaptable team player with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and initiative, coupled with a results ‑ oriented mindset and the ability to translate analytical insights into meaningful business impact
- Strong presentation skills and the ability to communicate complex analytical concepts clearly to a range of audiences.
Salary Range: $69,500 - $119,500
