Job Opportunity
BHSI has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Complex Claims Professional on our Casualty claims team. At BHSI, claims is not a support function—it is a core pillar of our business. Our claims professionals are trusted experts who bring deep technical expertise, sound judgment, and a commitment to delivering exceptional outcomes for our clients.
In this role, you will manage a portfolio of complex casualty claims, handling matters from initial notice through resolution. You will play a key role in driving strategy, advising stakeholders, and delivering best-in-class claims outcomes while working alongside a highly collaborative and experienced team.
We are seeking an experienced professional to join our team in New York. This position is a great opportunity for practicing lawyers looking to transition out of a law firm as well as claim professionals with casualty claims experience.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end claims management for complex casualty claims across primary and excess policies
- Take ownership of the full claims lifecycle, from first notice of loss through final resolution
- Serve as a trusted advisor to internal partners, insureds, and brokers
- Analyze policy language and draft clear, well-supported coverage determinations
- Drive investigations forward, coordinating with experts and ensuring timely progress
- Manage defense counsel and external vendors, maintaining strong oversight and accountability
- Partner closely with insureds and brokers throughout the lifecycle of the claim
- Assess liability, damages, and coverage exposure to inform strategic decision-making
- Set and manage reserves within authority, providing recommendations where appropriate
- Prepare clear, concise reporting that reflects claim strategy and developments
- Represent BHSI at mediations, client meetings, and trials as needed
Qualifications, Skills And Experience
- A minimum of 15 years of experience handling Casualty claims, or matching equivalency.
- Strong technical expertise in complex claims analysis and resolution
- JD preferred, particularly for candidates transitioning from private practice, but not required
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a team environment
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and investigative skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Experience handling excess claims across multiple jurisdictions
- Must possess or be willing to obtain required adjuster licenses

The base salary range for this position is $160,000 to $180,000, along with annual bonus eligibility. Total compensation for a candidate is determined by their relevant skills, location, and experience.
