Job Description
Finance Intern (FTC)
Purpose of role:
The Finance Intern is responsible for general accounting functions such as preparing journal entries, assisting with financial statements, performing reconciliations, assisting with monthly closing - account analysis/reporting and supporting the Finance team in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance department.
This position is available as an 8 or 12-month co-op.
Main Duties
Accounting and Reconciliations
- Assist with the financial statement close process by preparing journal entries and reports
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations and maintaining supporting schedules; investigate, identify and document any reconciling items
- System uploads and reconciliation of data fed between systems
- Adhere to established internal controls and operating procedures
- Coordinating, updating and formatting financial reporting packages (including but not limited to Balance Sheet and Income Statement review packages)
- Manage completeness of journal entries ensuring back-up and management sign-off has been provided
- Processing of Vendor invoices and payments
- Processing of intercompany transactions
- Maintenance of fixed assets and amortization schedules
Analysis and Reporting
- Critically analyze ledger accounts by providing explanations for variances and movements
- Prepare financial reports which may include (but is not limited to): Corporate submission filings, regulatory submissions, compliance reports, financial statements, and/or internal management reports
- Support internal and external audit requirements by preparing audit evidence as required
- Support Financial Reporting Team by researching accounting standards in determining accounting policy decisions
Ad hoc activities
- Support the Finance team by completing ad hoc work
- Support Manager, Treasury, Investments & Payroll by managing and participating in ad hoc projects as and when required
Qualifications & Experience
- Knowledge of accounting concepts
- Pursuing Accounting/Finance degree
- Strong Microsoft Office experience, especially Excel
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and technical accounting skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline driven environment
- Flexibility to work overtime at peak periods
