Definity’s National Subrogation Unit (NSU) is seeking a bilingual and AMF licensed Team Leader to supervise a hybrid team of Subrogation Representatives and Petline Claims Adjusters. This role is critical in driving recovery performance, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting the strategic objectives of the Claims department.
The NSU is responsible for maximizing subrogation recoveries across Canada, handling complex liability and collection files, and collaborating with internal claims teams. The Team Leader will also oversee Petline adjusters who adjudicate pet health claims and provide expert guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
What can you expect in this role?
- Supervise and support a team of Subrogation Representatives and Petline Adjusters
- Oversee the intake, investigation, and resolution of subrogation files across Property, Auto, and Casualty lines
- Ensure compliance with AMF licensing requirements (5a and 5b)
- Provide leadership and guidance in the adjudication of pet health claims, including policy interpretation and customer support
- Collaborate with internal claims teams to promote subrogation awareness and best practices
- Guide litigation strategy, manage external counsel, and oversee complex legal files
- Deliver training and mentorship to team members and claims partners across Canada
- Monitor performance metrics and ensure alignment with departmental goals
What do you bring to the role?
- University degree, college diploma, or CIP designation
- AMF Personal (5b) and Commercial (5a) insurance licenses required
- Bilingual in English and French (written and spoken)
- 7–10 years of subrogation experience, with a background in Property or Casualty adjusting preferred
- Experience supervising claims professionals, including in pet insurance or health-related adjudication is an asset
- Strong knowledge of legal processes, statutes, and alternative dispute resolution methods
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills
High degree of proficiency with English and French required to service customers, both internal to the company and external, across Canada
Salary Range: $77,100 - $142,000
