Job Description
The Life Sciences Claims Team provides claim handling with regard to some of the largest medical products manufacturers and providers of instruments with worldwide distribution on the cutting edge of innovation, research and technology. Typical Life Sciences claims involve complex medical devices, prescription drugs, OTC formulations, nutrition products and clinical trials under Products/Completed Operations, General Liability (premises/operations) and E&O coverages. The AVP will report to the VP of Life Sciences Claims.
Responsibilities
- Manage claims nationwide.
- Analyze and address coverage issues timely and accurately under multiple policy contracts.
- Ability to develop knowledge of insurance coverage and contracts.
- Promptly and properly investigate, document, and contact all knowledgeable parties.
- Maintain well documented and articulate file notes.
- Evaluate complex damages, liability exposures.
- Set accurate and timely reserves.
- Direct control of the litigation management process and expenses.
- Interact with business partners, insureds and directly with claimants and counsel.
- Negotiate cases to an acceptable resolution under limited supervision.
- Present cases and regularly share expertise with colleagues and senior management.
- Recognize potential fraud and third-party contribution issues and handle as appropriate.
- Adhere to all statutory regulations and Unfair Claim Practices Acts.
- Assist where needed in management functions.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience handling claims, life sciences or products liability a plus; and/or
- Associate attorney with litigation experience, products liability preferred.
- Licensed to handle claims across the United States.
- Ability to negotiate and resolve claims.
- Ability to deliver high caliber customer claim service to a sophisticated client base.
- Organizational skills to manage own claim inventory under moderate supervision.
- Regularly collaborate, share expertise and provide feedback in a team environment.
The pay range for the role is $105,700 to $179,700. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and other factors.
