The opportunity:
The Wholesale division is comprised of six underwriting teams (Cyber, Energy, Equine & Livestock, Marine, Professional & Financial Risks, and Trade Credit, Political Risk & Surety), as well as an award-winning claims team, underwriting support, delegated underwriting, and strategic business development. We have staff around the world with a significant presence in Asia and the US, in addition to the London market.
Our teams operate as ‘One Wholesale’, working together towards our goal to be one of the world’s great speciality insurers. We work collaboratively both within Wholesale and across the wider Markel organisation, and because we work as one, we are able to build the best solutions possible for our clients, and provide outstanding development opportunities for our staff.
The team offers oversight during underwriting, bordereaux administration, and technical processing, as well as credit control. In addition the team work with external contacts including brokers, coverholders and regulators.
The successful candidate would be encouraged to achieve individual and team targets, and fully contribute to the overall success of the department.
What you’ll be doing:
- Responsible for day to day management of delegated underwriting and claims authorities in accordance with Markel’s Delegated Underwriting Standards, Markel’s Delegated Claims Standards, Lloyd’s and regulatory standards.
- Process both new and renewal delegated underwriting and claims authorities through our internal delegated workflow system, which includes full due diligence on Lead coverholders and DCA’s ensuring all checks are appropriately handled and signed off where required.
- Liaise with underwriters, brokers and coverholders around our on-boarding and renewal requirements ensuring administration of the portfolio is in line with regulatory defined conduct requirements and agreed minimum standards for all territories.
- Work collaboratively with other internal partners as required for each facility. Compliance/Legal and Reg, Claims, Wordings, Governance, Global Security Services, Actuarial, Office of the Chief Underwriting Officer, Finance and Corporate Management.
- Work closely with the audit team, compliance and underwriter to ensure any unresolved issues or matters of concern are raised in the audit.
- Grow and maintain underwriter/broker/coverholder relationships in support of the business through the life of the portfolio.
- Work closely the delegated data team and credit control team to ensure the contract and terms of trade are being adhered to.
Our must-haves:
- Will have experience of delegated operational performance within an underwriting environment
- Will be a proficient user of MS Office suite and the ability to learn in-house software
- Possess an understanding of compliance issues including Conduct, Consumer Duty, GDPR, Licencing, Product Governance, Operational Resilience and other regulatory matters.
- Demonstrate a grasp of the relevant Lloyd’s minimum standards and ensure that we meet those criteria.
- Possess a good level of expertise and understanding of market practices and processes for delegated business.
- Able to interpret and understand slip definitions and wordings, ensuring all required clauses are included and up to date.
