Senior Security Engineer
Job Description
As a Sr Security Engineer, you will be a hands-on technical leader, directly executing and driving security initiatives that protect our systems, data, and infrastructure. This role is focused on technical expertise and thought leadership. You will collaborate closely with IT, engineering, and risk teams to implement and maintain security controls, evaluate new designs, and continuously improve our security posture. You will be expected to actively contribute to technical solutions, lead by example, and remain deeply involved in day-to-day engineering activities.
Role Responsibilities
Security Engineering & Consulting:
Lead and execute the implementation of security projects, with direct involvement in technical tasks and solution delivery.
Review and configure security tooling throughout the organisation; supporting IT with best practice implementations.
Evaluate and enhance existing security controls, policies, and procedures through hands-on analysis and configuration.
Perform risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies, communicating current resilience and risk exposure to technology and business owners.
Provide technical security consultancy to projects, focusing on practical solutions
Engage with risk, legal, privacy, data governance, and enterprise architecture teams as a technical subject matter expert.
Work closely with Security Monitoring teams to provide insight and recommendations for operational use cases, including direct involvement in tuning and improving detection capabilities.
Support secure-by-design competencies (attack mapping, threat modelling) through hands-on workshops and technical reviews.
Conduct vulnerability assessments and coordinate remediation efforts, including direct technical fixes and validation.
Collaborate with DevOps and IT teams to integrate security into infrastructure and application design and development lifecycles, with active participation in technical implementation.
Support compliance efforts (e.g., SOC 2, ISO 27001, etc.) through documentation, control testing, and direct technical contributions.
Share knowledge with team members and promote a culture of security awareness through technical mentoring and example.
Skills & Experience
7+ years of experience in cybersecurity roles, preferably in finance services or insurance sectors.
Broad, hands-on knowledge of security domains: network security, endpoint protection, secure development lifecycle, identity and access management, incident response, and governance.
Experience with AWS cloud security (additional knowledge of Azure would be helpful).
Experience securing and configuring AWS cloud services and 3rd party tooling that integrates with AWS services.
Direct experience with SIEM, EDR, vulnerability management tools, and cloud-native security services.
Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and industry standards (e.g., NIST, CIS, etc.).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on technical execution.
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, especially in technical contexts.
Preferred certifications: GIAC, CISSP, etc.
Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related discipline.
