We have the opportunity for an
Infrastructure Operations Manager to join our
IT department here at
Tokio Marine Kiln. Reporting into the Head of Technology Operations, you will be accountable for the efficient maintenance and support of TMK's infrastructure, ensuring the smooth operation of storage, compute, backup, data centre operations, cloud platforms, physical and virtual server estates, patching, monitoring, observability, and alerting. This role involves providing deputy management support for the Head of Technology Operations and minimising technical operational risk through regular maintenance and compliance with good practice, security, and regulatory requirements. Additionally, the Infrastructure Operations Manager is responsible for developing and executing the Infrastructure Operation strategy roadmap across all core technologies within their remit.
The role includes responsibility for:
- Monitoring Infrastructure Services: Oversee all infrastructure services (excluding EUC and Network) to ensure they meet availability and capacity requirements in line with SLAs.
- Security and Compliance: Conduct regular security patching, firmware updates, and installation of service packs across all server endpoints and services to maintain security and regulatory compliance.
- Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity: Act as the technical owner of the TMK disaster recovery/business continuity process, including periodic testing to ensure compliance with industry regulations.
- Backup and Recovery Management: Manage the backup and recovery service, ensuring periodic testing and compliance with industry standards.
- Team Management and Development: Lead the Infrastructure Operations team through daily stand-up meetings, team meetings, quarterly planning, and 1:1s to foster open communication and collaboration in a hybrid working environment.
- Technical Expertise and Development: Provide technical subject matter expertise, minimise single person dependencies, and use the IT skills matrix to identify gaps and develop team members.
- Supplier and Vendor Management: Manage suppliers and vendors in line with agreed Supplier Management KPIs.
- Documentation Management: Ensure that Infrastructure Operations process and procedure documentation is up to date and shared with relevant stakeholders.
- Adherence to Processes: Ensure all team members adhere to the processes, procedures, and guidelines as set out in Infrastructure Operations documentation.
- Service Management Processes: Promote and support all Service Management processes (Incident, Service Request, Change, Problem & CSI) within the team, ensuring full adherence and compliance.
- Collaboration with Architecture: Maintain close collaboration with the Architecture function, contributing to and adhering to design/requirements artefacts (HLD/LLD) to ensure new services and infrastructure comply with standards.
- On-Call Escalation: Act as an out-of-hours/on-call escalation point of contact for major service issues on a rotational basis.
The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in managing, motivating and developing technical operations teams and will also be experienced in planning and developing IT infrastructure to meet organisational needs. Strong technical skills and knowledge in storage, server technologies (both physical and virtual), data centre operations, cloud platforms (AWS and Azure), and Infrastructure as Code are also essential for this role. We are looking for someone who has excellent communication and management skills, who also has the ability to present ideas and influence in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
