Description
As an Assistant Underwriter you’ll dive straight into underwriting IP exposures, including new business and renewal underwriting, developing broker relationships, and assisting the team on product development.
Risks you’ll be underwriting will involve defensive infringement risk, pursuit of infringers risk and IP right protection exposures. You’ll be underwriting in a number of different territories and a main focus will be understanding the coverages and exposure so you can educate brokers on IP risk and the benefits of a standalone IP policy.
Whilst direct underwriting experience is not essential, you’ll have experience within insurance and a keen interest in Intellectual Property and a willingness to develop your skills and knowledge through working alongside an experienced and supportive team.
About the role
You’ll be exposed to a wide range of intellectual property risks, spanning multiple territories and business sectors. The role will require curiosity to understand complex and evolving risks, as well as strong organisational skills to manage and prioritise effectively.
- Underwrite SME IP risk effectively, on both new business and renewals;
- Respond to and manage enquiries from brokers in a timely and professional manner, producing new and renewals quotations within agreed SLAs and authority parameters
- Maintain and update the IP renewal and prospect list.
- Support the team to develop and seek out new business opportunities, building strong broker relationships (both face to face and over phone) to create profitable IP business;
- Maintain and producing regular underwriting reports around the portfolio as required;
- Explain the features, advantages and benefits of IP insurance products, coverage enhancements, support product launches and raise awareness of new and existing products;
- Assist with the preparation and delivery of internal and external events/presentations on CFC products, key trends and emerging exposures;
- Research with a mind to develop subject matter expertise in IP classes and investigate relevant legislation/regulation/compliance issues within our target markets;

General insurance knowledge is essential, either from an underwriting or broking background. Along with an interest in developing your understanding and expertise within intellectual property.
