The Team
The Projects & Construction team at Clyde & Co is a market-leading practice focused on the construction and engineering industries, advising on the full lifecycle of complex building, infrastructure and engineering projects in the UK and internationally. The team works with developers, contractors, engineers, consultants and funders on the procurement, structuring and delivery of major projects, with particular strength in drafting and negotiating building contracts (including JCT and NEC), EPC contracts, professional appointments and associated security packages
The Role
We are seeking a Senior Associate to join our London-based Projects & Construction team on a minimum 12-month fixed-term contract. This role will focus on high-quality transactional construction and projects work, supporting major infrastructure, energy and development projects in the UK and internationally.
The successful candidate will play a key role in advising clients on the drafting and negotiation of construction and project documentation, working closely with partners and colleagues across our global network.
Key Responsibilities
- Advising on and drafting a broad range of transactional construction documentation, including: Building contracts (JCT, NEC and bespoke forms), EPC contracts (including FIDIC), Professional appointments and collateral warranties, Framework agreements and related project documentation
- Supporting on the construction aspects of project financings and corporate transactions
- Advising on procurement strategies and risk allocation
- Negotiating construction documentation on behalf of employers, developers, contractors and funders
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across real estate, energy, projects finance and corporate teams
- Supervising and mentoring junior lawyers, where appropriate
- Contributing to client relationship development and business development initiatives
Skills & Experience
- England & Wales qualified lawyer with significant post-qualification experience (typically 5+ PQE) in transactional construction/projects work
- Strong experience advising on complex construction and infrastructure projects
- Excellent drafting and negotiation skills
- Commercially astute with a pragmatic approach to risk
- Experience working with clients in sectors such as infrastructure, energy, real estate or transport
- Ability to manage multiple matters and work to tight deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset
