How does this role contribute to our collective success?
We are looking for a talented and motivated Assistant Underwriter to join the Global Markets Portfolios underwriting team.
This role will be a key contributor and supporter to the performance and strategic success of the unit, assisting in the development, evaluation and servicing of new and renewal business.
AXIS Capital’s Global Markets Portfolios unit writes primarily follow lines on a portfolio basis across a wide range of industries, classes of business and geographies. We have growth goals along multiple fronts in the fast-evolving portfolio solutions space.
What will you do in this role?
Support Underwriters to achieve targets set out in the business plan, in accordance with underwriting standards and controls.
Gain an understanding of risk appetite and decisions, selection and underwriting process and reviewing risks with that in mind, to ensure underwriting standards are maintained, and documenting accordingly.
Prepare underwriting deal assessment papers, summaries, and presentations for internal stakeholders, ensuring accuracy and clarity of information.
Review coverage requests and referrals and assess the business unit’s position relating to such requests with guidance from Underwriters.
Build strong relationships with brokers and internal/external business partners, with particular attention to service and responsiveness.
Attend client and broker meetings with or without colleagues as appropriate.
Work with Delegated Underwriting team, Contract Certainty, Conduct Risk, Claims, Exposure Management, Finance, and Actuarial during renewal/new business assessment and ongoing performance monitoring.
Work with Portfolios Business Partner and liaise with Underwriting Assistant, other underwriting departments and functional teams as necessary on various aspects such as risk entries, premium queries, bordereaux reporting, exception reports, credit control, regulatory reporting etc. in support of the underwriting team.
Work with Portfolios data analysts and Portfolios Business Partner to enhance MI and analytic tools.
Maintain Portfolios renewal list and relevant underwriting spreadsheets.
Assist in the development of the unit’s annual underwriting plan and budget reporting process.
Achieve agreed training programmes as applicable, including Lloyd’s briefings, market seminars, CII, etc.
Monitoring regulatory, market and agency bulletins and circulars.
Assist in all other general underwriting administration and processing functions to ensure efficient workflow within the team. Maintenance of files and systems, when required.

What you need to have:
Experience in (re)insurance underwriting support preferred – ideally some experience with delegated authorities in a Lloyd’s syndicate operation.
Exceptional attention to detail, ability to analyse data, with an accurate and diligent approach to completing tasks.
Intermediate Excel skills, able to perform lookup functions, pivot tables and demonstrate knowledge of Excel formulae.
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint.
Preferably able to navigate Power BI reports confidently.
Ability to multi-task and manage conflicting priorities, meeting deadlines in a timely fashion.
Team player who will thrive in a fast-paced, close and collaborative team environment.
Good numerical and presentation skills.
Desire to learn and develop.
Highly motivated and solution orientated, using Initiative and being proactive.
