IT Technical Manager (12 month Fixed Term Contract)
- Lead and develop technical teams through a period of transition and change
- Drive operational excellence across technical support, monitoring, automation, and ServiceNow platforms
- Hybrid role – up to 80% homeworking, with occasional time in Stratford-upon-Avon
About the role:
We’re looking for an experienced Technical Manager to lead technical teams through an important period of transition at NFU Mutual. This 12-month fixed term contract offers a unique opportunity to deliver change and support the direction of our monitoring, automation, and ServiceNow platform operations, driving improvements in service delivery, tooling, and operational efficiency.
Working within Infrastructure Products Delivery, you’ll work with Team Leads, overseeing around 35 technical specialists, supporting NFU Mutual’s technology operations and continuous service improvement. You’ll ensure that teams remain aligned with business and product goals, while embedding robust governance, clear accountabilities, and a culture of collaboration and excellence.
What you’ll do
- Lead and develop three cross functional technical teams responsible for monitoring, Technical Support and automation, and ServiceNow platform operations
- Provide hands-on leadership, fostering collaboration, coaching team leads, and ensuring delivery excellence across a complex environment
- Drive operational maturity, including service visibility, SLA performance, and proactive problem management
- Oversee vendor relationships and performance against SLAs and KPIs
- Partner with stakeholders to improve process efficiency, standardisation, and governance
- Champion initiatives in tool consolidation, automation, and monitoring optimisation
- Support the evolution of ServiceNow capabilities, CMDB data quality, and proactive monitoring and SRE practices
- Help shape future team structures and delivery models as part of NFU Mutual’s ongoing IT transformation
About you:
You’ll be a confident, collaborative technical leader with experience managing multiple operational or platform-focused teams. You’re comfortable operating in a fast-changing environment, balancing structure with adaptability, and ensuring high-quality service delivery across complex systems. You’ll also be able to bridge the gap between technical teams and business stakeholders, able to lead technical conversations and make informed decisions without getting into the hands-on delivery. This role would suit an experienced leader who’s comfortable guiding and coordinating technical experts.
You’ll also bring:
- Proven experience managing technical teams across monitoring, automation, and ITSM tooling
- Strong understanding of ServiceNow operations (including change, event, and CMDB management)
- Familiarity with monitoring platforms such as Dynatrace, Nexthink Infinity, or IBM tooling
- Experience in vendor and SLA management
- Knowledge of UiPath Automation or equivalent process automation tools
- Understanding of SRE principles and proactive service reliability practices
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- A collaborative, supportive approach to leadership and coaching
