JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Manager, Technical Specialists, the Technical Specialist enables the achievement of growth, underwriting quality, service and talent objectives, aligned to the Commercial Insurance and Corporate Strategies, by supporting Underwriters to progress their careers by building capabilities in writing, evaluating, and servicing risks in alignment with Economical’s corporate risk appetite.
What can you expect in this role?
- Support Regional Processing Centres and Mid-Market Underwriting Teams.
- Manage key programs and processes, including referrals, quality review, training delivery and coaching.
- Work closely with regional management to improve underwriting practices and develop talents.
- Review quotes, make technical recommendations and approve within limits of authority.
- Coordinate referral requests to Head Office, if necessary.
- Conduct quality audits to ensure compliance and adherence to guidelines.
- Help the organization achieve profitability targets through effective coaching and ongoing technical support.
- Act as a first point of contact for underwriters beyond their leader by answering questions, clarifying products and guidelines, and ensuring quality underwriting.
- Act as a technical reference, guiding teams with strong expertise in industry, processes and strategy.
- Case support: Help build competitive solutions and interpret submissions throughout the underwriting cycle.
- Talent development: Act as a trusted expert, sharing learning and supporting the growth of underwriters.
- Design and deliver targeted training tailored to regional and national needs.
- Participate in national committees and contribute to the improvement of internal standards.
What do you bring to the role?
- University Degree or College Diploma in a relevant program.
- Must be bilingual in English and French.
- Experience as a Senior Underwriter.
- 6+ years experience in Commercial Underwriting, with solid technical skills.
- Demonstrated interest in coaching and talent development.
- Understanding of adult learning principles.
- Industry-related certification is a requirement: CIP, FCIP, CRM, or equivalent.
- Excellent computer literacy skills, including use of Policy Administration Systems, Pricing tools, Case Management tools, and Excel.
- Good working knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Expertise in one or more lines of business (wording, procedures, policy terms and conditions).
- Able to manage multiple tasks and to work within deadlines.
- Strong analytical skills and quick decision-making.
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and customer service.
- Proven talent in coaching, training and popularizing complex concepts.
High degree of proficiency with English required to service customers, both internal to the company and external, across Canada.
Posting Range: $73,500-$123,500
