The Role
The Health & Safety Officer will support the implementation and continual improvement of the company's health, safety and wellbeing framework across our UK and International operations. Working closely with management, operational teams, surveyors, adjusters, and support functions, the role will provide competent, practical, and proactive advice to ensure legal compliance, uphold Group standards, and enable safe working across office, field, and client environments.
This is a fixed term contract for 12 months.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Compliance & Governance
- Support delivery of the Group Health & Safety and wider Real Estate and Workplace enhancement strategies.
- Assist with the development of integrated management system documentation i.e. H&S, Environmental, and Business Continuity standards.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with UK and International legislation, ISO standards, and internal policies.
- Support the development, review, and communication of risk assessments, safe systems of work, and guidance materials.
- Assist with internal audits, inspections, and risk assessments across office, field, and specialist technical environments.
- Maintain accurate H&S documentation and reporting, including KPIs, dashboards, and incident logs.
- Support external audits, client assurance requests, and insurance risk assessments.
Training, Engagement & Culture
- Promote a positive safety culture through engagement, coaching, and visible leadership.
- Design, deliver, and evaluate H&S training, inductions, and toolbox talks.
- Support wellbeing, mental health, and occupational safety initiatives.
- Monitor industry developments and share emerging legislation, trends, and best practice.
- Contribute to awareness campaigns or training programmes related to H&S, sustainability, workplace wellbeing, and emergency preparedness.
- Support cross-team communication to reinforce the integration of H&S considerations into broader REW initiatives.
Incident & Risk Management
- Support and where appropriate complete incident and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action follow-up.
- Conduct site audits, workplace inspections, and safety observations.
- Assist with RIDDOR reporting and post-incident actions where required.
- Support emergency preparedness, business continuity, and crisis response planning.
- Support business continuity and resilience planning by providing H&S-related input into emergency response, crisis management, and operational recovery procedures.
- Assist in reviewing workplace-related risks (e.g., building safety, asset maintenance, emergency systems) to ensure alignment with H&S governance.
Stakeholder Support
- Work collaboratively with REW colleagues to ensure a cohesive approach to risk, sustainability, environmental performance, and workplace safety.
- Provide ad-hoc support to sustainability projects, facilities management tasks, and business continuity planning, ensuring H&S principles remain central to decision-making.
- Assist with cross-functional initiatives that integrate health & safety considerations into sustainability, environmental performance, and workplace management programmes.
- Support the coordination and review of supplier and contractor management processes.
- Assist in data collection and reporting for sustainability and environmental performance metrics where required.
- Support workplace teams with site inspections, contractor oversight, space planning reviews, and office safety improvements.
- Contribute to REW-led projects or initiatives that enhance operational resilience, employee wellbeing, and safe working environments.
- Provide appropriate competent H&S advice to operational leaders, surveyors, adjusters, and support teams.
- Support H&S elements of client tenders, proposals, and assurance processes.
- Liaise with clients, auditors, regulators, and industry bodies as required.
- Assist with office H&S management, including fire safety, DSE, first aid, and contractor control.
- Represent Health & Safety in internal and external meetings, reviews, and audits.
- Providing support to the wider REW team as required
- Carry out Ad Hoc duties and tasks that are allocated to you at the discretion of management and that are within your capabilities and within the scope of your post.

Required Skills
Essential
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a health and safety role, ideally within field-based or multi-site operations.
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) and working knowledge of UK and International H&S legislation.
- Proven experience in incident investigation, risk assessment, and H&S auditing.
- Strong communication, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience with ISO 45001 or other management system standards (e.g. ISO 9001 /14001/27001/22301).
- Ability to work independently, prioritise workload, and travel nationally when required.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Experience within insurance, loss adjusting, construction, engineering, or professional services.
- Working towards or holding TechIOSH / GradIOSH (or higher).
- Knowledge of wellbeing, mental health, or occupational health programmes.
- Understanding of high-risk work controls (e.g. working at height, confined space, COSHH, PUWER, lone working).
- Experience in designing and delivering internal H&S training or awareness programmes.
- Experience contributing to H&S performance reporting or KPI dashboards.
