Financial Market Risk Senior Manager
Department: Risk
Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time
Location: London, UK
Description
As a Senior Manager in the Financial Market Risk team, you will not merely observe risk from the periphery; you will be instrumental in building for the future. Convex Group’s flat hierarchy and use of technology provides the opportunity to move beyond narrow technical remits and engage with the genuine big picture. We operate in a way that prioritises agility and direct impact. This role offers significant business partnering opportunities, requiring you to collaborate closely with Investment, Treasury, and Actuarial teams to inform and influence our risk appetite.
Based in our London office, you will report to the Head of Financial Market Risk, enjoying a high degree of involvement in decision-making and a line of visibility that sits just two steps from the Group Chief Risk Officer. We are looking for a sophisticated practitioner who values the chance to help shape a leading global insurer during an ambitious phase of its evolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Build strong relationships with the investment, treasury, capital modelling, and actuarial teams, ensuring the risk team understand and are kept fully informed of any new initiatives which impact financial market risks.
- Engage with internal and external investment managers to share market insights and risk assessments.
- Lead the production of Risk Opinions for the investment plan, new investment managers, and new asset classes, including overseeing the work of the FMR senior analyst.
- Review the monthly and quarterly reporting produced by the FMR senior analyst.
- Provide oversight of the calibration and validation of investment and credit risk parameters used in capital modelling.
- Supporting the ORSA reporting process from a market, credit and liquidity risk perspective.
- Contributing to quantitative and qualitative reviews of risk on a regular basis, including deep-dive analysis.
- Represent the FMR team in risk committee or investment committee meetings.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in the asset management, insurance, or pension industry.
- Excellent understanding of investment fundamentals, including the range of asset classes a P&C insurer would typically invest in.
- Experience of modelling investments within the context of portfolio design, ALM / SAA, or risk.
- An understanding of risk management methodologies such as Value-at-risk (VaR).
- Experience of risk-based economic and capital models such as Solvency II and BSCR is a plus.
- Self-starter attitude and proven ability to diagnose and resolve issues and strong analytical skills.
- Graduate degree related to finance, economics, actuarial or equivalent.
- A relevant professional qualification such as CFA, FRM, or FIA/FFA.
